Facebook Premiere New Video Format Guide

Facebook Premiere

Facebook Premiere lets you schedule and debut videos as Live moments. After the broadcast, the video will be saved on your Page.

Facebook Premiere Publishing requirements

  • Premieres can only be published by Pages.
  • Premieres can only be scheduled and published from a computer.
  • The Premiere option can only be selected when your video is first uploaded. A video that has been uploaded normally can’t be transitioned into a Premiere.

Note: Larger file sizes are more likely to fail during the upload process. Consider choosing a more compressed file format if your upload is greater than 6 GB.

Facebook Premiere Eligibility

All videos that are new to Facebook are eligible for Premieres, with the following exceptions:

  • Previously live videos cannot be premiered. However, edited and repackaged versions of live videos, such as highlights or recaps, maybe premiered.
  • Syndicated series that have been previously released on the internet may only premiere their first upload to Facebook.
  • Movies that have been previously released on the internet cannot be premiered.
  • Previously premiered videos on Facebook cannot be premiered again.
  • Previously uploaded videos on Facebook cannot be premiered.

Scheduling requirements

  • A Premiere has to be scheduled at least 10 minutes in advance. You won’t be able to launch a Premiere immediately so be sure to plan ahead.
  • Premieres can be scheduled up to 7 days in the future.
  • Pages can schedule more than one Premiere for the same time.

Video requirements

  • Premiere videos must be at least 30 seconds long.
  • Videos must be 30 frames per second or less.
  • MP4 is the suggested video format for Premieres.
  • The video codec must be H264.

Editing your Facebook Premiere

Once your Premiere is scheduled we do not recommend editing the file. If you need to swap in an updated or fixed video we recommend doing so at least one hour in advance.

Before your Premiere

Once your Facebook Premiere is scheduled a Scheduled Live post is automatically posted on your Page. Viewers are able to Like, Share and comment.

Viewers will be able to click a button to subscribe to notifications on your Premiere. Subscribers receive their first notification 20 minutes before your Premiere begins.

Three minutes before your Premiere begins, subscribers are again notified that they can join the broadcast lobby. In the Facebook Premiere lobby, they can Like, Share and comment live before the Premiere begins.

During your Premiere

During the Premiere your video is broadcasted live with a Premiere badge.

Viewers are able to Like, Share and comment in real time.

Unlike a normal Live broadcast, a Page administrator doesn’t have to be present during a Premiere broadcast.

After your Premiere

Premieres is meant to enhance your video’s debut moment, but after the broadcast ends your video functions like any other video Post on your Page.

When your Premiere ends the video being premiered is automatically converted to a video Post on your Page. All of the Likes, Shares and comments the video gained during the broadcast are saved onto that post.

New viewers can see all of the Premieres’ Likes, Shares or comments and add their own at any time.
